Wiss Folding Pocket Knife Features Radical, Functional Design
Crescent Wiss, under Apex Tool Group, debuted a radical new folding pocket knife design. The Wiss Folding Pocket Knife features a blade design reminiscent of a Klingon weapon from Star Trek. In addition to that, the function seems to follow form.
Crescent Wiss Folding Pocket Knife Blade
The Tanto style blade features a better piercing tip thanks to a sweeping grind on the top. The partially-serrated edge looks to handle a variety of tasks.
Aside from the top grind, holes in the middle of the blade also attract the eye. Positioned here, it drops the weight of the blade while having little, if any, effect on the strength of it.
The Wiss folding pocket knife has a titanium coating that they claim is three times harder than steel. This should help with the durability of the overall blade. Unfortunately, the coating won’t have any effect on the edge. The sharpening process grinds away the titanium. The blade comes in at 3.25 inches, meaning it won’t be legal to carry in some areas.
Handle Design
The metal handle on the knife includes gray and red Wiss coloring. The blade deploys with a spring-assisted mechanism activated by thumb studs on either side. It locks in place with a classic liner lock. The reversible pocket clip and integrated lanyard hole offer an easy clipping point. It also shaves a few more grams from the weight.
Crescent Wiss is known for its scissors and shears around the industry. Suffice it to say, they know a thing or two about sharp blades. The Wiss Folding Pocket Knife retails in the $18 – $20 range. At that price, we don’t expect to find the latest and greatest materials used. That’s not always a negative if it’s well-designed. Hart’s Tactical Knife Combo ($14.88 at The Home Depot) has been fantastic, so this could be a steal of a deal as a toolbox/shop knife.
