When it comes to engines, Vanguard is, well …, just that, arguably the industry’s vanguard. Up there with names like Honda, their products are staples within the outdoor power equipment market. Although best known for commercial-grade mower engines, the brand’s lineup powers loads of other gear. Take, for instance, the new Vanguard 300 Single Cylinder Horizontal Shaft engine (19V3).
This model is ideal for everything from pressure washers, generators, and hydraulic power packs to wood splitters, chippers, leaf vacs/blowers, and trenchers. That’s a pretty long list that brings us to the matter of performance and design features. Here’s what this engine has to offer.
Vanguard 300 Single Cylinder Engine Performance and Design
To start with, the 19V3 comes in at 307cc, generating 10 horsepower. That equals impressive performance potential, especially when you put this model into context. For example, on a pressure washer, it would easily give you in excess of 3,000 PSI at close to 4 gallons per minute. And those are certainly commercial numbers.
Now, a big thing for me with gas engines like the Vanguard 300 single cylinder model is the ignition process. This comes down to two factors: the start type, and the engine’s environmental tolerance.
Specs
- Model: Vanguard 19V3
- Displacement: 307cc
- Horsepower: 10
- Fuel tank: 4.78 gal
- Weight: 71 lbs
The 19V3 is a pull-start. That’s not unusual on such units. However, Vanguard optimized the 300 single cylinder engine for a shorter rope pull that also requires less pull force.
Furthermore, this thing has eye-opening temperature endurance. According to the brand’s reps, the 19V3 has a mechanical compression release and choke optimized for improved cold weather starting – down to 0º to be exact. It’s also resistant to stale fuel, which will come in handy every spring.
Moreover, Vanguard has you covered in terms of engine maintenance. The 19V3’s cyclonic air filter is a standard feature with a 600-hour replacement interval. Additionally, it features a proprietary nano media self-cleaning filter element with Vanguard’s Autoshed Technology.
