Klein Tools 4-in-1 Electronics Pocket Screwdriver

Klein Tools 4-in-1 Electronics Pocket Screwdriver

Klein’s knack for productive multi-function hand tools is on full display in the Klein Tools 4-in-1 Electronics Pocket Screwdriver. I’ll show you its helpful functionality and some of the tricks it has up its sleeve.

Pros

  • Precision bits for control panel terminal blocks and other specialized work
  • Rotating cap and rubber grip offer great control
  • Interchangeable long and short barrel lengths
  • Concealable tip

Cons

  • No significant drawbacks

Recommendation

Rarely do you find a tool that sells itself short, but the 4-in-1 description doesn’t do justice to this Klein Tools screwdriver. Yes, there are four different bit sizes appropriate for precision work, but the barrel length adjustment means that you have a short and long version for each bit. The rotating cap, comfortable grip, and concealable tip are excellent features, too. It’s hard to beat the utility of this tool, especially for the price.

Performance

A Bit About Bits

Much of my day consists of assembling terminal blocks in control panels for enormous pumps. The Klein Tools 4-in-1 Electronics Pocket Screwdriver provides for the majority of my precision work needs with #0 and #00 Phillips and 1/8-inch and 3/32-inch slotted bits. The double-ended bits and barrel are all conveniently self-contained inside the handle.

The bits hold themselves snugly in the barrel with a ball plunger and detent. I’ve seen a handful of complaints about bits not staying securely in the barrel—but that was not my experience. Everything fit—and stayed—together nicely.

It took me a moment to figure out why the yellow portion of the handle slid up and down. It’s the bit’s tip concealment function. Using the short barrel, the yellow shield slides down over the tip so you can slide the screwdriver in your pocket without the risk of ripping your shirt or pants. The pocket clip assists. Pretty cool.

Barrel of (Work) Fun

If my measurements are correct, the barrel inserted in the long position is 1.75 inches longer than the short position. It’s common to only have a small space in which to maneuver a screwdriver in precision work, so the compact option is excellent.

The shorter end allows a good amount of torque when you need it, too. But the long barrel position works great also.

Capping Off the Klein Tools 4-In-1 Electronics Pocket Screwdriver

The Klein Tools 4-In-1 Electronics Pocket Screwdriver’s gray cap spins freely against your hand, adding a sense of control. You can gently brace the tool against the screw and your hand instead of spinning the whole tool.

Rounding out the comfort and control is Klein Tool’s excellent rubber grip.

Price

There’s no shortage of multi-bit precision screwdrivers to choose from, but most (if any) don’t feature the long and short barrel adjustment. Even so, here’s a look at the Klein’s competition.

The Bottom Line

The Klein Tools 4-in-1 Pocket Screwdriver is a fine addition to your toolbox if you need precision bits for electronics and similar applications. It features four bits as well as a barrel that can be either short or long, making it much more than a 4-in-1 tool. The rotating cap, concealable tip for the short barrel option, and comfortable grip round out this excellent screwdriver.
