Makita Chips Away at Expanding its Cordless Line

One of the emerging technologies that seemed to be all the rage at this past World of Concrete Event is the lighter-duty cordless concrete breaker/demo hammer/rotary hammer. We got our hands on Makita‘s own version, the XKH01 18V X2 LXT AVT Power Scraper. It might just be the smallest model we’ve come across this year—but size isn’t everything!

Big Things in Small Packages

The Makita 18V LXT AVT Power Scraper excels at scraping, light chipping, scaling, and chiseling applications. With its brushless motor, it can reach variable impact speeds between 0-3,200 BPM and 2.2 ft-lbs of impact energy.

However, with Makita anti-vibration technology (AVT) featured on the tool, you won’t feel the vast majority of that energy in the form of vibration. The AVT housing moves independently of the hammer to effectively isolate and absorb impact energy.

Because the Makita 18V LXT AVT Power Scraper weighs just 7.7 lbs with the battery, it remains maneuverable in tighter spots.

The XKH01 accepts SDS-Plus bits. It also lets you rotate those bits in 30-degree increments to vary the angle (12 settings). This lets you find the right position for whatever application you’re working on. If you find yourself doing wall or floor scraping, varying the angle easily helps you properly place the chisel.

The Makita Power Scraper comes with a number of features to help with your overall productivity as well. Constant speed control automatically applies more power when the tool comes under a heavier load. It features a variable speed dial and trigger to match your power to the application at hand (though most will never drop it below the maximum). A soft start-up keeps the tool from running away on you when you pull the trigger.

Makita also included some general quality-of-life improvements to this tool. Among them, we find an integrated LED work light, oversized three-finger trigger, lock-on power mode, and swing-out rafter hook.

Pricing & Availability

We’re not entirely sure yet how much the Makita 18V LXT Power Scraper will cost. It won’t hit the shelves until sometime this upcoming Spring. Likely, it will be available as both a bare tool and as part of a kit with a couple of batteries. We do know the XKH01 includes Makita’s 3-year limited warranty on the tool, as well as any batteries and chargers that come with it.
