Earlier this summer we got a chance to go hang out with the folks at Bosch and check out some of their new tools. While the power tools were fun to play with, we didn’t want to leave out the new accessories we learned of as well. Roger Amrol, president of Bosch’s accessories division in North America, announced the availability of several new accessories for the company this year. What this preview focuses on, however, is concrete. For this, Bosch rolled out lots of new products, but the most innovative of these were the Bosch BlueGranite Turbo Carbide Hammer Drill Bits. These bits are the same BlueGranite you’ve come to know and use, but Bosch did something different with the shank – and we like it.
Bosch BlueGranite Turbo Carbide Hammer Drill Bits
This new “three wing” power grip shank has three notches that stick out of it, giving the drill chuck a ton more leverage on the bit and transferring more power directly to the drilling job. They’re also extremely secure once placed into the chuck of a hammer drill. The Bosch BlueGranite Turbo Carbide Hammer Drill Bits also feature a diamond ground tip, which gives the bit “sticking” power when starting up a hole.
As the name implies, these bits are made of carbide steel and Bosch has shaped their proprietary tips in such a way as to cause many different surface areas to come in contact with the concrete, providing a fast, clean cut – which we verified for ourselves. For holes under 5/16-inch in diameter, these new bits—paired with a capable hammer drill—should yield some excellent results.
There are 47 model numbers in the range with about 27 different actual bits. Because of the way these bits are made, Bosch even recommends them for use on natural stone. These are out on the market right now, so check them out at your local dealer or home improvement warehouse.
