Whether you’re a woodworker, finish carpenter, or remodeler, a good planer can be a life saver. Well, that may be taking it a bit far, but it’ll sure save some frustration on your projects. No stranger to cordless tools, our friends in Black and Yellow have announced the new DeWalt 20V Max Brushless Planer.
The fact that DeWalt went with their XR Brushless Motor is a pretty big deal in terms of extending the life and run time of the tool. There are other cordless planers on the market, but DeWalt looks to be the first to launch a brushless model in the US.
From what we’ve been told so far, the DeWalt 20V Max Brushless Planer has a 3-1/4 inch cutting width. Maximum depth of cut is 3/32 inch and it has a 5/64 inch rabbet capacity. The adjustment intervals aren’t listed in the press release, but if it matches up with the European model, it will be 0.1 millimeter (roughly 1/256 inch). That’s a pretty fine adjustment, so we’ll need to wait for the official specifications to come out to know for sure.
DeWalt’s XR Brushless Motor will turn the twin carbide blade drum at speeds up to 15,000 RPM. The blades is also reversible. Chip expulsion is out the right side of the tool and a dust collector can be connected if you have one on hand. An edge guide and chamfer (bevel) groove come with the planer as well. Weight comes in at 6.7 pounds without the battery.
DeWalt’s brushless planer will be sold as a tool only with an expected retail price of $199. It comes with DeWalt’s standard 3 year limited warranty, 1 year service agreement, and 90 day money back guarantee. No date has been set for retail availability, but we’re anticipating it won’t take long.
