FLIR277 Highlights
The FLIR MR277 combines the advantages of Infrared Guided Measurement (IGM) with the company’s proprietary Multi-Spectral Dynamic Imaging (MSX). Its environmental sensors help you quickly locate, identify, and document problems. The IGM technology and laser pointer help you isolate the problem area, where you can then use the integrated pinless moisture sensor for non-invasive readings. Or, you can use the external pin probe for more invasive readings.
With 4x better resolution than earlier IGN moisture meters, the MR277 helps you find moisture, air leaks, insulation voids, and more. You can take comprehensive thermal and visual readings with accurate hygrometer readings and laser location. You can even document your problems all in one .jpeg file.
Whichever way you tackle the job, the new FLIR Thermal Imaging Moisture Meter helps you locate the problem, diagnose issues accurately and efficiently, and do more in less time.
The FLIR MR277 features a 2MP digital camera with Thermal, Visual, and MSX display modes and a 70.5° x 56° field of view and a 2.8″ QVGA display. A 4.2 V 5400mAh LiPo rechargeable battery powers the unit, and an 8Gb hard drive gives you enough space to store up to 15,000 radiometric JPEG images.
It comes with an MR13 replaceable temperature and relative humidity sensor, an MR02 standard pin probe, a USB charger USB cable, a lanyard, and a quick start guide.
Retail prices run $1,399 and it’s backed by a 10-year warranty. Check out the full specifications on FLIR’s website.
A Few Thoughts
This tool has been a long time coming. We already use our FLIR C2 and One Pro to visually identify moisture boundaries and follow it up with a moisture meter to get readings. However, it’s not the first imaging moisture meter. Back in 2016, FLIR introduced its MR176 imaging moisture meter and the new model offers a few significant improvements.
FLIR MR176 | FLIR MR277 | |
Display | 2.3″, 320 x 240 | 2.8″, 320 x 240 |
Thermal Resolution | 80 x 60 | 160 x 120 |
MSX | No | Yes |
Battery | 3.7V, 3000mAh Li-ion | 4.2V, 5400mAh Li-Po |
Runtime | 18 hours | 16 hours |
Image Storage | 9,999 (BMP) | 15,000 (Radiometric JPEG) |
Price | $999.99 | $1399.99 |
While this isn’t an exhaustive list of specifications and there are some other areas where there are smaller differences, it highlights some of the most relevant areas. The biggest advantage is the upgrade to MSX and doubling the thermal resolution. That’s going to give you a much better visualization of what you see in the camera. It comes with a significant cost increase, though.
