General Equipment Company Tower Lights

General Equipment Company recently announced the General Equipment Company Tower Lights line of inflatable, temporary lighting solutions designed for both large and confined areas including construction, security, party, sporting events, accident investigation, disaster relief, search/rescue, and advertising-related applications.

A cylindrical, load-bearing nylon tower is inflated with constant air pressure delivered by an integrated blower system. The units can be installed and ready for indoor or outdoor operation in approximately one minute with no special tools or additional components. Powered by 115 VAC, 60 Hz or gas generators, General Equipment Company Tower Lights provide 360-degree, diffused, glare-free illumination at operational heights of 7.5, 10 and 14 feet. The tower remains inflated even with minor cuts or perforations.

Our Take

Everyone’s seen the constant power inflatables running around car lots, real estate agencies, and cell phone retail stores, but I doubt you’ve seen one intentionally designed to hold up a light. General Equipment takes an innovative approach to jobsite lighting with this idea and takes it way beyond basics.

For starters, General Equipment Company Tower Light put out a ridiculous amount of light compared to typical jobsite lighting solutions that have come out. And for good reason – these are designed to light up a much larger area. The TK750 and TL1000 (600 watts) put out 62,000 lumens while the TL1400 (100 watts) jumps up to 105,000 lumens.

To get this kind of light output, General turns to metal halide lamps rather than LED chips. That’s a change from the current direction of jobsite lighting, but might be the best choice for this specific application.

There’s certainly some weight to contend with – you’ll need to keep the lights at bay while standing 7-1/2 to 14 feet tall. The lights are 40.5, 45, and 60 pounds respectively. The same 380-watt blower is used in all three models to keep them standing tall.

General Equipment Company Tower Lights start about $2300 for the TL750 and run to roughly $2750 for the TL1400. For the light output and the ability to raise it up to height without hanging it, the tower lights are a pretty compelling option for outdoor jobsites.
