Metabo Rotary Hammers Now Include Brushless AC Options

The expanding Metabo line of cordless rotary hammers not only offers new models to choose from but also brushless motors to extend the service life and boost performance.

Metabo AC Brushless Rotary Hammer Highlights

The new Metabo combination hammers feature hammer drilling, drilling, and chisel functions. With their brushless motors and high-performance hammer action, the new rotary hammers are designed to maximize drilling progress and demolition performance.

Metabo’s proprietary electronics help keep the performance at a constant level, even under load. There’s overload protection to keep these rotary hammers from overheating and restart protection to prevent unintentional start-up after a power supply interruption.

They use Metabo’s double-dampening VibraTech technology: a decoupled handle and oscillating weight that reduces vibration and helps alleviate fatigue. There’s also a torque-limiting clutch that reduces the risk of injury in unexpected bit bind-ups.

For working on softer materials, Metabo includes optional speed and impact energy reduction.

A soft start feature is helpful for spot-drilling.

These Metabo rotary hammers work with the ESA Max Dust Extraction Set to keep silica dust inhalation to a minimum. The set is compatible with drill attachments from 16-52 mm along with pointed and flat chisels up to 25 mm. You can change out drill and chisel bits without removing the extraction set.

A Few Thoughts

AC brushless rotary hammers aren’t a new concept. Metabo HPT (Hitachi at the time) brought out some of the first large AC brushless models several years ago. We were even able to get one in the hands of our mason to get his impressions.

Even though runtime isn’t a concern with corded tools, you still get the brushless motor’s benefits of longer life, no carbon brushed to maintain/replace, and additional electronic control potential.

Considering Metabo is part of the Metabo HPT company (owned by investment firm KKR), it’s a little surprising that Metabo has taken this long to adopt AC brushless concepts. That said, our German friends rarely do anything without really thinking it through first, and we expect these hammers to deliver excellent performance and a durable design to match their reputation.
