Here at Pro Tool Reviews, we’ve got a soft spot for Senco. We give a lot of love to their pneumatic products – both their nailers and compressors are excellent. A recent review of the SHF200 Flooring Nailer left us duly impressed. What often gets overlooked is their cordless tools. It’s been a while (2012 to be exact) when we last looked at the cordless Senco DS212 Drywall Screwgun. It boasted some improvement over the previous model and we expect to see even more from the new Senco DS215 that’s included in the Senco Cordless Drywall Promo Kit.
The Senco Cordless Drywall Promo Kit starts with the DS215 Drywall Screwgun and adds in a 28,000 RPM Drywall Cutout Tool. Included in the kit are a pair of 18V batteries, 45 minute charger, 1 Phillips and 1 square bit, wood and drywall nose piece, 2 drywall cutting bits, collet wrench, and storage bag. Senco tossed in the Cordless Drywall Cutout Tool without raising the price, but there are a limited number of these kits running around. Once they’re gone… well, you get it.

Aside from including the drywall cutout tool, there are a few notable changes from the DS212. First, there’s been some trade offs between speed and torque. Senco doubled the speed to 5000 RPM and traded off some of the torque from 90 to 60 inch pounds. Considering that this is primarily a drywall screwgun (there are a few other recommended uses), 60 inch pounds should be plenty. It’s got the same footprint in terms of dimensions, but it’s trimmed another 0.3 pounds off the weight to bring it down to 5.3 pounds. When it comes to installing drywall on your own, the lighter weight makes using the Senco DS215 one handed even easier than before.
Expect to see 500 – 700 screws installed per charge on the Senco DS215. The charger takes 45 minutes to go through a full charge cycle, but you’ll get an 80% charge in just 15 minutes. Since two batteries are included in the kit, you shouldn’t have any issues working all day without stopping to wait for charging.
Like the DS425AC Deck Installation System, the DS215 benefits from Duraspin technology and Senco’s collated screws. The combination so far has led to installation experiences that are much more efficient than single screw installation techniques. User reviews on the Senco Cordless Drywall Promo Kit have generally been very positive.
