Ridgid Makes the Long-Awaited Jump to Brushless Motors and Jumps Up in Battery Capacity
Here at PTR, we thought for sure that the post-X4 tools were going to result in the Ridgid Gen5X Brushless line. We were a little disappointed when they came out as brushed – but with significant power increases over the X4. Now they’ve come full circle as we realize that Ridgid had brushless tools in mind the entire time – we were just a little ahead of ourselves.
The Ridgid Gen5X Brushless features 2 new tools and a 5.0 amp hour battery. The battery is an upgrade on the HyperLithium batteries that they’ve had for a while. They’ll still work in your Ridgid 18V tools that currently work on the HyperLithium platform. It is rated to run in temperatures from -4 F to 120 F. Look for the price to be set at $119 with a three year warranty. It should hit shelves this month.
The new Ridgid Gen5X Brushless Tools haven’t gone to massive heights with power like some of the other brands have. They’ve taken what they already have with the hammer drill and put it in a more compact package with longer run time. The impact driver did get a boost in performance specs though. Like Ridgid’s other Lithium-ion cordless tools, these are all backed by Ridgid’s Lifetime Service Agreement. As usual, you’ll find the new tools appearing at a local Home Depot in the coming weeks.
