New brushed Hitachi drill and impact driver kits just hit the market and seem to be generally well-received by end users. For some reason, there hasn’t been a whole lot said about these new Hitachi drill/driver kits. We’re not really sure why, but there’s no information on Hitachi’s website about these yet. Still, they’ve shown up in stores, and we’re going to share what we know with you!

We’ve done extensive impact driver comparison testing, and this Hitachi drill and impact driver kit specs out in the middle of the pack in terms of speed and power and is priced at the upper end of the range for brushed 12V kits. In spite of its average performance specs and smaller battery capacity than most, user reviews have generally been very positive. This may be due to ergonomic considerations in the design. Hitachi’s lifetime tool warranty certainly can’t hurt sales though.

Similar to the 12V kit, the new 18V Hitachi Drill and Impact Driver kit has average performance specs and is running below average on battery run time (amp hours) compared to others. It also runs on the high end of this price point for 18V brushed kits. Also like the 12V kit, it is enjoying favorable reviews from users. Seeing the kind of feedback that Hitachi is receiving from end users in despite average performance and a slight premium on price makes me wonder what we’d see from them if they really put some muscle behind developing their cordless line. Clearly what they’ve got must be good if they’re guaranteeing it for life.
