The new Skilsaw 13-Amp Reciprocating Saw with Buzzkill Technology is a tool that packs performance we haven’t seen before. But not in a fast-cutting kind of way. The performance we’re talking about is the impressive vibration reduction that comes with the Buzzkill technology. What’s at work is a full-frame counterbalance mechanism that’s much longer than most currently on the market.
With just a 13-amp motor, there are saws that will cut faster than the Skilsaw 13-Amp Reciprocating Saw with Buzzkill Technology. In its class, however, it does the job pretty well. There’s a general lack of features, but at a price point of $99, we expect that. The big ones missing are orbital action, a variable speed dial, and adjustable shoe.
Before we can even say, “what I’d love to see in the next model…,” Skilsaw already took care of. Later this year, a 15-amp model with Buzzkill is on the way that will include those major features missing on the 13-amp model. Whether or not we’ll see a rafter hook is still up in the air.
You’ll want to be aware of what blade you’re using when cutting through wood. The newest carbide blade tooth designs take nearly three times longer than an aggressive tooth on a bi-metal blade with a similar TPI rating. We’ll certainly take a second look at that when the 15-amp model comes out.
