A sneak peek of Milwaukee 5262-21 7/8″ SDS Plus Rotary Hammer.
Lightweight rotary hammers are fast becoming the new tool of choice among professionals who need to drop in some large anchors or drill through concrete or cinder block with a bit more performance than you get out of a cordless tool. Milwaukee has just revamped its rotary hammer platform with a new M18 Cordless rotary hammer, but their 5262-21 7/8″ SDS Plus Rotary Hammer is just the ticket when you’ve got enough work to warrant the extra power and versatility. At just 5.8 pounds, this D-handled tool is going to be able to be used overhead without causing your arms to fall off after the first 2 minutes of drilling.
In fact, Milwaukee, in order to keep the price point where it is, opted out of active vibration reduction (they use what’s known as Anti-Vibration System, or AVS), relying instead on the low weight to help the user with any overhead work.
Milwaukee 5262-21 Rotary Hammer Features
So why has it taken this long to bring a new rotary hammer drill to market in this category? Well, Milwaukee had to improve the category’s technology to the point where it would make sense and be a dramatic improvement and asset to professionals. The new 5262-21 rotary hammer drill has a brand new motor design that packs a whopping 5625 bpm and 0-1500 rpm into a very compact size.
Milwaukee claims that the Milwaukee 5262-21 7/8″ SDS Plus Rotary Hammer can run up to 40% faster than competitive cordless rotary hammers. That is a bold statement, and one we look forward to testing out – perhaps in some head-to-head competition.
The new Milwaukee 5262-21 rotary hammer brings 2.4 ft-lbs of impact energy to bear, making it hit – and hit hard. The company says that is part of what delivers the faster drilling. We look forward to putting this tool in the hands of our professionals and seeing what they think.
Possibly the most impressive feature is that Milwaukee made this tool hit so hard for its weight. Put this baby in hammer-only mode, and you’ve got a mini demo tool on your hands that can do some serious damage (where it’s needed, of course!) In fact, Milwaukee’s SDS Plus Rotary Hammer includes a full three modes of operation: rotary hammer, hammer-only, and rotary-only (drill mode). It also has a Variable Position Chisel Stop fixes the chisel in 12 different positions for various applications. For protection (mostly yours), the tool features a
mechanical clutch that protects the motor whenever a bit gets caught, or binds.
