Makita has one of the widest ranges of 18V cordless tools, so you’d think they might want to sit back and relax for a while… Apparently not, as the company has just announced a new 18V LXT lithium-ion Brushless 1″ SDS-Plus Rotary Hammer (model LXRH011). What’s more, it includes a HEPA Dust Xtraction Vacuum Attachment. The LXRH011 is Makita’s latest tool using their LXT Brushless Motor Technology. The new Brushless tools can increase runtime by up to 50% and can increase power and speed as well as they are more efficient.

Makita is claiming a lot of firsts with the new LXRH011 Rotary Hammer, including the fact that this is the industry’s first 1″ capacity 18V cordless rotary hammer and the first 18V brushless rotary hammer to come with a built-on vacuum attachment. Makita designed the LXRH011 to have the same drilling capacity as the leading competitor’s 36V rotary hammers, but shaving around 2-1/2 lbs. at the same time. With increasing demand (not to mention regulation) to contain dust and create safer work environments for both professionals and consumers, a product like this makes an awful lot of sense.
The new LXRH011 has an efficient BL Brushless Motor with variable speed that delivers 0-950 RPM, 4,700 BPM, and 2.0 Joules with up to 50% longer run time than current Makita 18V LXT rotary hammers. What’s amazing here is that both the rotary hammer and the vacuum system are powered off the same 18V battery. Makita credits this to the efficiency of the brushless motor. The separate vacuum motor also increases suction efficiency without sacrificing the performance of the rotary hammer.
Now let’s talk about the HEPA Dust Xtraction Vacuum Attachment. It’s trigger-activated so it works automatically every time you fire up the drill – no separate switch control is needed or utilized. It also stays on for two seconds after you release the trigger so all particles are removed from the drilling surface – even as the bit is removed from the hole. This is really handy for overhead drilling. Makita designed the rubber suction gasket to fully contact the work surface, where it channels dust to the clear container via the HEPA filter, which captures 99.95% of dust particles (down to .3 microns). If you’re not able to connect to a corded dust extractor, this is going to serve you well in an all-cordless environment.
The high capacity dust container is clear so you can see when it’s filling up. It’s designed and sized so that emptying the container is both quick and easy as well as less often than with smaller containers we’ve seen on competing systems. The vacuum attachment also has a quick release and can be easily detached from the rotary hammer when not needed.
The LXRH011 also has the coveted 3-mode operation, which means it will do rotation only, hammering with rotation and hammer-only (chipping) mode. The trigger is somewhat oversized on purpose for comfort and so that it’s easy to use with gloved hands. A depth adjustment guide is included for increased drilling depth accuracy – perfect for saving you from over- or under-drilling when placing a series of Tapcons.
