So check this out – Klein Tools just released an illuminated fish rod tip (Cat. No. 56119) for its line of Klein fiberglas fish tapes and Klein stainless steel fish tapes. It features a bright white, omni-directional LED that can be used to illuminate the area when fishing above ceilings, in attics, through walls, in crawl spaces and under raised floors. What’s great is that this is an inline accessory, so it has a threaded base and tip that can allow for either a hook or bullet nose attachment to be connected. The ends are also both tapered so it shouldn’t create any issues or additional drag when pushing and pulling through conduit or other open spaces. And we thought glow rods were handy…
Aside from their big contributions, Klein seems to do a great job finding those little ways to make electrical trades’ jobs easier (the Klein Power Conduit Reamer is a great case in point). The illumination of this fish rod tip is just a great idea and I can recount many times where having a lighted tip on my tape would have made quick work of letting me know if I had dropped down the correct wall cavity when running wire between two stories or helped me identify problems when running tape through congested spaces. If it doesn’t make the job easier, it will at least speed up the work of knowing you’re in the right spot when fishing tape.
Klein Tools Illuminated LED Fish Rod Tips Features
The Illuminated Fish Rod tips fit drilled holes as small as 5/8” and are compatible with 1/4”, 3/16” and 5/32” diameter rods. Klein even includes the batteries, which are replaceable. It sells for just $9.80 (retail) so it’s priced reasonably enough to think it will catch on for those looking to acquire a nice add-on to their fish tapes.
