Power Source
The Klein Cap Visor Light uses two AAA batteries for power. They’re not as convenient as rechargeable lithium-ion batteries, but they are readily available. You can walk into almost any convenience store and find them.
Access is on the top and you don’t need any tools. Just pop the cap with your fingernail to change the batteries out.
Even though there’s no o-ring to seal it off, the battery door still closes things up tight enough to earn an IP54 rating.
Output
Using the rubberized push button on top of the light, you can cycle its 5 LEDs between 125 lumens, 40 lumens, and off. Expect roughly 4 hours of runtime on high and 8 hours on low with its AA batteries.
Angling for a Better View
There’s a simple angle adjustment that lets you adjust the light from straight out to 60º lower. There are no detents, just pull it to the angle you like and get to work.
Clip It
Some wire clips are weak and bend out easy. That’s not the case with the Klein Cap Visor light, though. It’s impressively strong and some of my tape measures could learn a thing or two from this design!
If you’re in a pinch, you can set the light on its clip to position and pivot it to a better angle when sitting on your hat isn’t ideal. This isn’t a negative against the design, but one area it might gain some versatility is with a magnet on the top to use on electrical boxes.
