Klein Tools has obviously found success with their multi-bit screwdrivers; they keep releasing new editions of the design that is a true testament to space consolidation. This time, we’re looking at the Klein 4-In-1 Electronics Screwdriver. It features four standard tamperproof Torx bits that all fit into the shank of the screwdriver. It also features a rotating end cap for improved control when working on small pieces and equipment.
While tamperproof screws are great at keeping DIYers out of areas they really shouldn’t be without proper instruction, they’re a pain if you don’t have the right bit on hand. In fact, I remember waiting a week for my mobile marine mechanic to get the right size just to be able to work on an outboard. The point is, having the right size tamperproof bit when you need is critical to getting the job done quickly and keeping your clients happy.
Klein 4-in-1 Electronics Screwdriver
The Klein 4-In-1 Electronics Screwdriver includes four of the more common Torx bit sizes – T7, T8, T10, and T15. Two double-sided bits fit into the chrome-plated steel shank, which fits snugly into the handle.
What’s more, these Torx bits override tamperproof Torx screws. Basically, when a manufacturer really doesn’t want you tinkering around in the innards of their product, they might use tamperproof Torx screws to hold it all together. These screws have little nubs that won’t allow a standard Torx bit to fit into the screw. So, if you’re really looking to throw caution to the wind, these tamperproof bits will allow you to sidestep that little safety precaution.
It also includes a rotating end cap. Folks typically find these to be helpful, especially when working on smaller equipment. They allow you to continually twist the driver while holding it in place. Is this possible without the aid of the rotating cap? Sure, it is. But, this way is easier.
The handle has Klein’s trademark rubber cushion grip, and the shank has been plated in corrosion-resistant chrome. Klein has heat-treated and precision ground the tips for greater durability.
Final Thoughts
Klein seems to have a good thing going with this design, taking their multi-bit screwdrivers and adding the tamperproof Torx bits. It’s functional and it saves a ton of space in your tool bag or pouch – only having to bring along one driver, as opposed to four drivers, helps when space is at a premium.
Retail on this model is $9.97. Comparing the cost of 4 individual drivers, it’s a tool that makes a lot of sense if these are sizes you run into. By the time to add in Klein’s original 4-in-1 Electronics screwdriver with Phillips and slotted tips, you’ve got most of your fasteners covered with two tools.
