The GearWrench 120XP ratchet is the first ratchet we know of to feature 120 positions. That means that for every full rotation, it can turn fasteners with a swing arc of as little as 3 degrees. Talk about getting into tight spaces… the way the GearWrench 120XP does it is through the use of double-stacked pawls which provide an ultra-narrow swing arc. With less of an arc required to “click” the ratchet, you can insert your tool into tighter areas and reach fasteners in severely limited access applications. We looked at the GearWrench Gimbal ratchet earlier, and it really impressed us with its build quality and features
GearWrench 120XP 3-Degree Arc Ratchet Features
The 120XP ratchet still uses the same 60-tooth gear, but now it alternately engages a set of double-stacked pawls. The result is 120 positions and the 3-degree swing arc. GearWrench ratchets have always been comfortable to use in our opinion and the 120XP ratchet continues this trend with a long, ergonomic handle that looks like it delivers a solid grip. Like other GearWrench products, it has an easy-to-clean, full polish chrome finish and comes in 1/4″, 3/8″ and 1/2″ drive sizes. The 120XP ratchets are available as stand-alone tools or you can buy them in select SAE/Metric standard/deep socket sets.
GearWrench continues to use a “closed-head” design, which we love. That means that the back of the tool is completely sealed, so there is less room for dirt to gain access to the interior components. The ratchet also uses a “teardrop” shaped head with a low profile and flush mounted on/off switch, so when you put the tool into a tight space, it won’t accidentally switch the direction of rotation on you. It reminds us a lot of the newer Kobalt Tools Ratchets and DeWalt mechanics tools with redesigned smooth handles.
