Thief Returns Circular Saw After 50 Years

I like heartwarming stories. This one’s not heartwarming, but it speaks to repentance – and that’s a start. 85 year-old Mel Yoder recently received a cardboard box, roughly taped up and with his name and current address labeled on the side in black marker. As it turns out, the package contained a decades old Porter-Cable circular saw. The same one that was taken out of his truck back in 1959 when he stopped for coffee at a restaurant in Hartville, OH.

Like most of us, Mel never bothered to file a police report, but 50 years later the saw was mysteriously returned to him – a little worse for ear of course. Yoder figures the person who took it is someone who knows him, since he didn’t live at his present address 50 years ago when the tool disappeared. True to a man with class, Yoder wants the thief to know he doesn’t hold a grudge:

“If he contacts me, I’ll tell him I forgive him.”

What we want to know is: can some oil and a little tweaking get that tool to start working again? I’m betting we could get it cutting!
