Tecovas LongHaul Work Boots First Impressions

Tecovas LongHaul Square Toe Work Boot

For everyday wear, my go-to boots are the Brunt Marin 2.0 work boots due to their comfortable wedge sole design. The greater surface contact area spreads out your weight and Brunt’s design has plenty of cushion. This helps tremendously when working on hard surfaces—I’m talking to you, warehouse workers! That said, Tecovas is making me think twice about which boots I reach for in the morning!

To prepare for this review, I’ve been wearing the LongHaul Square Toe Work boots as my primary boots for the last few weeks, and I just keep coming back to how comfortable they are. They offer a relaxed feel, and the cushioned midsole does a great job of absorbing shock while working on hard surfaces. Standing in our shop, running around with my kids, or checking on barbed wire fence lines—they simply felt comfortable all the time.

Comfort and Fit

Right out of the box, I have to say that these are some of the more comfortable western-style boots I’ve worn. The premium leather upper is very flexible and relaxed—almost like they’re already broken in! The removable insole is on the thinner side, but it does provide a decent amount of cushioning.

I typically wear a size 11 regular in most work boots and shoes. Tecovas LongHaul work boots run true to size, so ordering online is pretty straightforward. I suggest you stick with the size you normally wear, and you should be fine.

Construction

Goodyear Welt construction

Starting at the bottom, Tecovas equipped these boots with double stitched Goodyear welt construction. This is our preferred connection type for its excellent durability and overall longevity.

They also designed these boots with what they call MuckOFF tread. This provides maximum traction, slip resistance, and a self-cleaning pattern that helps prevent mud build-up.

For certifications, these boots meet ASTM standards for electrical hazards (EH), and slip resistance (SR), plus they’re fully waterproof!

MuckOff Tread

Tecovas incorporated its Total Energy Command (TEC) technology for enhanced comfort. This includes a specialized footbed, non-woven insoles, and an integrated shank for added support and safety in uneven terrain. Additionally, the high-performance eTPU filler offers a softer walking experience on hard surfaces.

Composite Safety Toe

For the safety toe, Tecovas opted for a composite model rather than steel, or aluminum. This style still provides all the protection you require but with the added bonus of shaving off a little weight. Additionally, composite materials are non-conductive, meaning they won’t allow electrical charges to pass through and they’re not as sensitive to heat or cold. Plus, for those working in more secure locations, the composite toe won’t set off any metal detectors.

Cleaning and Care Guide

This next section may not be high on everyone’s priority list, but I’m a big believer in preventative boot care and maintenance. Doing so helps to extend the life of your boots, and stretches your dollar a little further.

Tecovas recommends removing dust and dirt with a horsehair brush or damp cloth, if necessary. For conditioning, I typically apply a small amount of mink oil paste, or a quality boot oil. Just let it dry, and then buff the surface with a horsehair brush or lint-free cloth. This helps keep the leather hydrated and reduce the chances of cracking.

If you’re a fan of polish and shine, Tecovas recommends sticking with a colorless product to avoid altering the color of the boots. Just makes sure your boots are clean and dry, then apply small amounts of a wax-based polish, let it dry, remove with a brush or soft cloth, then buff to your desired level of shine.

Tecovas does sell a Basic Care Kit, so you can get all the products you need in one place.
