Stanley Black & Decker is closing its manufacturing plant in Shelbyville, Indiana and moving its operations about 30 minutes due South to Greenfield. In the process it will create an estimated 80 jobs by 2012. Greenfield is located in Hancock County. According to the Indiana Economic Development Corporation, the move will enable them to exist in a much larger facility. As you’d expect with such a short distance move, workers at the existing Shelbyville facility will be transferred to the new location.
“We know that Stanley Black & Decker could have taken this expansion anywhere in the world so we are especially glad that Indiana came out on top and that the company will increase the size of its footprint in our state.”
– Mitch Roob, Secretary of Commerce and chief executive officer of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation
Like the existing facility, the new facility will manufacture industrial fasteners, various types of steel fasteners and industrial applications equipment. It will also serve to assemble some of the company’s pneumatic tools.
