Ryobi TriPower Tripod Tower Light Review

Ryobi Tripod Light

Ryobi TriPower Tower Light Gives You A Variety Of Power Options

Tripod LED lights enable you to illuminate more of your work area than traditional work lights that sit on the floor or table. However, Ryobi’s new TriPower Tripod LED Light lets you do more than just light up a room—no matter which Ryobi battery you use. I wanted to take a more in-depth look at this tripod light to see what sets it apart from others, and what Ryobi did differently in the design process.

Ryobi TriPower Tripod LED Light Performance

Ryobi TriPower Light
  • Model: Ryobi PCL691
  • Power source: 18V battery, 40V battery, or extension cord
  • Max brightness: 3800 lumens
  • 4 brightness modes
  • Up to 25 hours of runtime with a 40V 6.0Ah battery
  • Compatible with several 18V One+ lifestyle products

The Ryobi TriPower Tripod Light takes an innovative approach to power. You can run it via an 18V battery, a 40V battery, or an AC cord for all-day runtime. It’s the brand’s first-ever product to feature TriPower technology, making it ideal for anyone regardless of which Ryobi platform you use.

The PCL632 light itself has an output of up to 3800 lumens, with 4 brightness modes to choose from.

  • Low: 1300 lumens
  • Medium: 2300 lumens
  • High: 3800 lumens
  • Single panel: 800 lumens

When you use a 40V 6.0Ah battery, Ryobi tells us you can get up to 25 hours of runtime on low.

Compatible Devices

Along with the PCL632 360° panel light, the TriPower tripod is compatible with several other 18V One+ lifestyle and recreation products. At the time of writing, 41 different products, including lighting, audio, and fans, can be connected to it.

Ryobi TriPower Tripod LED Light Design

Ryobi LED Light
  • Fully-extended height: 7 feet
  • Detachable light
  • Adjustable tripod height
  • 135° pivoting head
  • Collapsible legs for easy storage

This tripod stands 7 feet tall when fully extended and just over 4 feet when collapsed. Several clamps on the telescoping shaft let you select your preferred height and lock it in place.

When you’re ready to pack up for the day, you can collapse the tripod’s legs for easy transport and storage. Each leg also doubles as a carrying handle for when you need to lug it around your work area while it’s collapsed.

All four of the PCL632 light panels can be adjusted for 360° lighting coverage. The light sits atop a 135° pivoting head to focus your illumination wherever you need it.

Plus, you can detach it from the tripod and insert an 18V battery to use it independently. It features a 2-by capable handle and a folding hanging hook to let you use it hands-free without connecting it to the TriPower tripod.

18V or 40V Power?

Yep, that’s right! Ryobi designed this tripod to run using an 18V One+ battery, a 40V battery, or even an extension cord. This is the first TriPower product from the brand, but I can see this design becoming popular with those who don’t want to be locked into just one battery platform.

The power port features an innovative design that allows for an 18V battery to be inserted, a 40V battery to be slid on, or an extension cord to be plugged in. Hence, its TriPower nomenclature.

Ryobi TriPower Tripod LED Light Price

This tripod light will be available starting in August 2024 exclusively at The Home Depot. It retails for $199 and includes the TriPower tripod and the PCL632 detachable light. Ryobi backs your purchase with a 3-year warranty.

The Bottom Line

With the flexibility this tripod gives you, it’s hard not to recommend it to anyone on Ryobi’s 18V or 40V battery platforms. Its numerous power options, coupled with the ability to connect dozens of 18V lifestyle products, give you tons of room to play. The PCL691 is among the most innovative products I’ve seen in quite some time, and it’s definitely worth considering if you’re looking for something future-proof for all of your lifestyle needs.
