New Ryobi P523 18V One Plus Orbital Jig Saw Features BladeSaver Innovation
The Ryobi P523 18V Orbital Jig Saw has some significant improvements along with a dash of innovation. It starts with a more powerful motor. According to Ryobi, the P523 now has the power to match corded jig saw models. The BladeSaver feature is completely innovative, but it’s also a “why didn’t they do that sooner” kind of moment. BladeSaver allows you to adjust the blade so that more of the teeth can be used. Now, when your blade teeth become dull, simply adjust it to utilize the undamaged part of the blade. That alone should make any blade last twice as long.
In addition to BladeSaver, the Ryobi 18V One Plus Jig Saw includes the SpeedMatch selector. It’s a way to match up the orbital settings of the saw with the material that you are cutting in order to maximize efficiency. A chart in the manual provides a nice breakdown of the materials and blades to use in each setting. The trigger isn’t variable speed like we’ve come to expect on most variable speed tools. Instead, the speed can be controlled by a lever that is placed on top of the P523. The trigger can also be locked using the lock on button to the left of the handle.
You can bevel the 18V Jig Saw up to 45 degrees either direction. This isn’t a tool free adjustment, but there are markings for 0, 15, 30, and 45 degrees both right and left to help get it set. Blade changes are tool-free, which is always a welcome addition. An edge guide kit is available to purchase separately.
