The Ryobi P795 joins the recent lineup of Ryobi 18V Hybrid LED lights to hit the shelves over the past several years. So what’s different about this model than the original hybrid LED light from Ryobi other than the frame style?
It’s all in the name – Ryobi 18V One+ Hybrid Color Range Work Light. That might be promising depending on what kind of work you do. So let’s take a closer look at what the P795 brings to the table and figure out where it fits in the wide world of LED work lights.
Lighting On A Sliding Scale
Hybrid Power Sources
As a hybrid light, the Ryobi P795 allows you to use any Ryobi 18V One+ battery or connect an extension cord. It’s a design we love on any battery-powered work light.
Mounting Options
Mounting the light presents a few options. The attached stand means that you can throw it on top of any flat surface and pivot it to the angle you need. You can also use the mounting plate that is compatible with all 1/4″x 20 tripod mounts. Single hole and cross-style cutouts allow you to position the light just about anywhere you can stick a screw or nail.
Ryobi P795 Output
The Ryobi P795 has 8 LED bulbs and three lighting settings. On the high setting, this light cranks out 1200 lumens. The Mid setting puts out 700 lumens, and the low setting keeps it light and breezy at 100 lumens. On the lowest setting, you can expect to get a little over 24 hours worth of runtime off a charge.
This is 500 fewer lumens than the original Ryobi Hybrid LED Work Light. However, it still has a nice wide throw and covers a solid 15 – 20 feet of workspace.
The Color Ranging Elephant in the Room
Those 8 LED’s are clearly different colors – yellow and orange. That’s where the magic happens in this light. As you adjust the dial from 5000 – 2700 Kelvin, the light applies increasing power to those orange chips and changes the color temperature.
The center of the Ryobi P795 light maintains a steady color. However, you’ll notice that the outside edges trend further down the temperature scale. The clean 5000 K has yellow edges and the orange 2700K trends towards red. As long as you’re aware of that, it won’t be a big deal since you can shift the light to catch the true color.
The color ranging feature may or may not be a big deal to you. The major win here comes on painting jobs. As the sun rises, moves overhead, and set again, we get a more orange light early and late. Whether you’re a Pro or a DIYer, you can use the Ryobi P795 to see how the shifting light affects the paint color(s) you’re considering. There’s also the issue of the various light bulbs that are on the market, so you can test against those color temperatures as well.
Price
The Ryobi P795 retails for just under $69.77. It’s $10 more than the original Ryobi Hybrid LED Light and adds the color range feature, though it has a lower lumen output.
The Bottom Line
The Ryobi P795 18V One+ Hybrid Color Range LED Work Light is an interesting addition to Ryobi’s line of LED work lights. The color range feature isn’t something that every Pro or DIYer needs. For those that find it helpful, picking up a light that pulls it off and has two power options for less than $80 might just be the ticket for your new go-to portable work light.
