Shawn D. Purvis and Purvis Home Improvement are looking at nearly $1.8 million dollars in fines from OSHA following their latest run in. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, Mr. Purvis being cited for “egregious willful, repeat, and serious workplace safety violations.
Unfortunately, his latest alleged violation comes on the heels of an employee’s death on a Portland, Maine jobsite last December. On April 5th, 2019, a grand jury indicted him for manslaughter and workplace manslaughter, connecting repeat violations to the conditions that led to the employee’s death.
This time, OSHA is citing 13 egregious willful violations connected to fall protection. There is one count for each employee exposed to unsafe conditions. Each count has a maximum penalty of $132,598. He is also being cited for failing to provide fall protection training, exposing employees to electrocution, and exposing employees to eye hazards, bringing his total penalty to $1,792,726.
Mr. Purvis has been cited seven times for fall protection requirements since 2006.
