Coming to Home Depot in November, the Ridgid R45171 10″ Compact Table Saw is the company’s newest entry into the table saw market. This updated Ridgid model has many of the same features as the last table saw offering, but housed in a more compact frame and stand.
Same Specs, Smaller Body
The interesting thing about Ridgid’s new table saw is how, at least on paper, it looks very similar to the R4513 model. The older model had a full-size body and a good deal of power. Like the previous model, the Ridgid R45171 has a 120V, 15 Amp motor, but it has a more compact size. Both saws can push 5,000RPM.
This table saw also features a 26″ rip cut capacity for wider materials. It has a micro-bevel adjustment for angled cuts, and if it works similarly to the full-size model, that would be a good thing. This table saw also has a soft start feature that allows for quiet and smooth startup (the Ridgid R4517 lacks the soft start feature).
This saw comes with a compact folding stand as well. The stand elevates the saw to a comfortable working height and folds easily for compact transport and storage. Ridgid constructs the table and stand from rugged cast aluminum, and the table saw includes a steel roll cage for added durability.
Retail pricing is $299 at your local Home Depot in November. Like most Ridgid tools, this one comes with their Lifetime Service Agreement.
Final Thoughts
If the Ridgid R45171 performs as well as the full-size R4513 did in our shootout last December, it ought to be in pretty good shape. The specs for both saws look almost identical. The full-size Ridgid table saw had the best showing in terms of power, but it’s too early to know if the same motor is in both. Traditional thinking says you move down a notch in motor size for a compact model, though.
Ridgid’s previous model did well in the fence department and we’re hoping to get the same one or maybe a slight upgrade. At $299, the retail price is $200 less than the full-size model. Obviously, the stand has more of a minimalist design than the full-size model. The R45171 also has shallower depth of cut, but only by 1/4″. We won’t know all the details until we can actually get our hands on it, but at its price point, the Ridgid R45171 might be worth looking into for Pros looking for a compact table saw. The price makes it awfully compelling for DIYers to jump to the Pro level as well.
