Ridgid Mobile Job Box Extends Storage Without Losing Stackable Function
One of the stars of the Ridgid Pro tool storage system is the Mobile Job Box, an extra-wide box designed to make transporting your longer and bulkier tools easier.
Ridgid Rolling Tool Box Basics
The Ridgid Mobile Job Box is part of the brand’s modular tool storage system designed to stack and lock together. Because of that, it’s important that this box has strong connection points for locking. In our experience, the boxes nest well into each other and then lock down together securely with latches that don’t unexpectedly come undone on us.
The Mobile Job Box offers some help when it comes to transportation. Though it does have a handle so you can carry it as a standalone toolbox, it also features a telescopic handle that slides out from the lid to work in conjunction with the wheels. When loaded with enough tools to make carrying uncomfortable, you can slide the handle out, tip the box onto its wheels, and roll your tools to where you need them.
We wouldn’t mind if the wheels were a bit bigger than 4 inches, though, as bigger wheels make rolling across uneven landscapes easier. It’s also worth noting that the telescoping handle feels a little slender and might be susceptible to impact damage if you leave it extended in the back of your truck.
Inside the Ridgid Mobile Job Box
A solid stack and latch design is an expectation for any modular system, but we also really appreciate a build that can stand up to the rigors of the jobsite. Ridgid has constructed the Mobile Job Box with a high-impact polypropylene that can support up to 100 lbs worth of tools. This is particularly helpful with the box’s space design. Since the 28-inch width can store longer and bulkier tools like your reciprocating and circular saws, a sturdy build is important.
Ridgid has a weather-resistant gasket surrounding the underside of the lid. When closed, the box protects your tools against water and dust ingress.
Finally, you get heavy-duty latches that keep the lid securely shut. The latches include eyeholes for locking with a padlock. Just note that you’ll need a smaller gauge lock as the eyeholes are a smaller diameter.
Additional Features
- Narrow wheel configuration is more maneuverable and easier to store than wider boxes
- Removable tray for smaller tools and parts
Ridgid Mobile Job Box Price
Ridgid priced the Mobile Job Box at $55.98, which is very reasonable when compared to comparable boxes in other systems. You can pick it up at your local Home Depot in-store or online.
The Bottom Line
We love the additional storage space that Ridgid’s Mobile Job Box offers and that it’s still compatible with the other modular pieces of their Pro Storage System. Even though its smaller wheels aren’t great on rough terrain, It’s reasonably priced and highly functional for Pros or DIYers who need more space.
