Publix, the supermarket giant, has announced its latest venture – Greenwise cordless power tools. Yes, you heard that right. The company that’s known for its groceries has decided to branch out into the world of DIY.
In a press release, Publix proudly proclaimed that the Greenwise cordless power tools are “perfect for any home improvement project,” adding that the tools are “durable, efficient, and environmentally friendly.” We’re not sure how a power tool can be environmentally friendly, but we’re willing to hear them out.
The range includes four core tools operating on an 18V battery platform. They offer a cordless drill, impact driver, circular saw, and reciprocating saw. All the tools come in the signature Greenwise color—green, of course. According to Publix, the tools have been rigorously tested and are suitable for both novice and experienced DIYers.
We’re not quite sure what inspired Publix to get into the power tool game. Perhaps the supermarket giant noticed that customers were always coming in for groceries, then wandering over to the DIY section to pick up a hammer or screwdriver. Or maybe Publix just wanted to diversify and dominate yet another segment of the market.
Either way, we can’t wait to see how this turns out. Who knows, maybe in a few years, we’ll be able to do our weekly grocery shop and also pick up a cordless lawnmower. They could even offer BOGO deals on tools and batteries…the possibilities are endless.
We reached out to some DIY enthusiasts to get their thoughts on the Greenwise cordless power tools. Most of them seemed confused and a little skeptical. One DIYer told us, “I don’t think I’d trust a power tool from a grocery store. I mean, what do they know about tools?”
Despite the mixed reactions, we have to give Publix credit for trying something new. The company also previewed new a line of hand tools slated for 2024—beginning with axes. They even released a new marketing tagline: “Publix axes—where chopping is a pleasure.”
