Olight Updates its Arkfeld Flashlight Lineup with Enhanced Brightness and Features
Olight has been on our radar for a while, and we’ve reviewed a variety of their flashlights over the last few years. Now, the brand is updating its Arkfeld lineup with a new model, the Olight Arkfeld Ultra flashlight. I’m looking at it to see how it compares to the previous iteration and help you decide if it deserves a spot in your EDC arsenal.
Olight Arkfeld Ultra Flashlight Performance
- Model: Arkfeld Ultra
- Max brightness: 1400 lumens (Turbo)
- Max throw: 103 meters (Turbo)
- Runtime: 125 minutes (Turbo), 11 days (Moon)
Output and Modes
The Arkfeld Ultra has five brightness settings to choose from: Turbo, High, Medium, Low, and Moon. In Turbo mode, it can produce up to 1400 lumens of light output, which it can throw for up to 103 meters. This narrowly beats out the previous iteration model, the Arkfeld Pro, which has a max brightness of 1300 lumens.
Like the Arkfeld Pro, the Ultra only has one power button to control the power, which requires various combinations of pressing and holding to reach your desired brightness setting. Pressing the power button once turns on the flashlight, and holding the button down toggles between High, Medium, and Low modes.
To engage the Turbo mode, tap the power button three times. Tapping the power button twice engages the strobe setting.
The Moon setting has a brightness level of only 1 lumen. To access it, hold the power button down while the flashlight is off. This feature is handy for night activities like camping, allowing you to see your surroundings without disturbing those nearby.
Runtime
When it comes to runtime, it goes without saying that max output will net you a shorter lifespan than the lowest setting. Due to the high output of Turbo and High modes, the Arkfeld Ultra flashlight will automatically step down the lumens after a short while to manage heat and protect the battery.
Here’s a runtime estimate guide for each brightness mode:
Olight Arkfeld Ultra Lumens/Runtime | |
---|---|
Turbo: | 14000 -> 420 lumens 4 mins -> 121 mins |
High: | 420 -> 100 lumens 135 min -> 12 min |
Medium: | 100 lumens 9 hours, 45 min |
Low: | 15 lumens 55 hours |
Moon: | 1 lumen 11 days |
Laser and UV
The Arkfeld Ultra flashlight also includes a UV light and a laser pointer. The specs for these are carried over from the previous iteration, with a 900mW UV light and a Class 3R green laser.
The UV light is ideal for seeing things that you can’t see with the naked eye. This comes in handy for cleaning, hunting, and pest control applications, among many other situations.
Like other laser pointers, the Arkfeld Ultra’s green laser can be used in a number of ways, from giving presentations to pointing to objects on the job. If you’re in need of the flashlight and the laser at the same time, simply double press the power button while the laser is on to engage the flashlight.
Olight Arkfeld Ultra Flashlight Design
Size and Weight
The Arkfeld Ultra is comprised of Olight’s O-aluminum, which the brand describes as being twice as hard as standard 6061 aluminum alloy. This is an upgrade from past Arkfeld models, offering increased durability and scratch resistance that helps it withstand everyday use. The side panels also feature an enhanced pattern that I prefer because it provides a more secure grip.
Like the Pro, the Ultra has a sleek, flat body similar in size to a pocket knife. It even features a two-way pocket clip, which has also been reinforced since the previous model. This flashlight is 4.7 inches long and weighs just over 4 ounces.
For durability, the Arkfeld Ultra features an IPX7 rating and a 1-meter drop rating.
Charging
The Arkfeld Ultra includes a USB charging cable that connects to the flashlight magnetically at the base. It’s reminiscent of a smartwatch charging cable, with a very strong magnetic connection.
The battery meter is located below the power button to keep an eye on your charge levels while it’s plugged in or when you turn on the flashlight.
Olight Arkefld Ultra Flashlight Price
The Olight Arkfeld Ultra retails for $119.99, and you can find it directly from Olight or through various online retailers. Olight backs your purchase with a lifetime warranty.
The Bottom Line
Out of all the Olight products we’ve reviewed, the Arkfeld Ultra flashlight is a top choice based on its light output and upgraded durability. I also really like how compact it is, letting you store it in your pocket if you find yourself needing a flashlight regularly. Plus, the Arkfeld Ultra’s UV and laser settings make it a multi-faceted tool that’s more than just a run-of-the-mill flashlight.
