Here’s yet another great idea that hit the market recently, this time from a company called Wheeler-Rex. It’s a product that speeds up pipe fabrication, by halving the amount of time it takes to drive and torque coupling-clamp screws. Meet the TwinTite, whose unique gearbox allows both coupling-clamp screws to be tightened simultaneously. The TwinTite is universal and tool-independent, so it easily mounts on virtually all variable-speed hand drills by the use of an adjustable (bendable) wire form that holds the unit secure and keeps it from bending down towards the bottom of the tool. The gearbox itself simply inserts into a 3/8″ drill chuck and you use the drill as you normally would to engage the system.
The TwinTite was designed for couplings from 1-1/2″ to 4″, so it’s ready for nearly any job you can throw at it. The torque is preset to 60in lbs. or 80in lbs. and can be re-calibrated, when needed, with a torque wrench. For those who have to deal consistently with the task of tightening soil-pipe couplings, this tool just made your job a whole lot easier. Instead of a manual process, you just pull the trigger and stop when the tool does.
There are three available models:
- 1990 TwinTite 60in/lb. with 5/16″ replacement socket 2.5 lbs. (1.2kg)
- 1992 TwinTite 80in/lb. with 5/16″ replacement socket 2.5 lbs. (1.2kg)
- 1994 TwinTite 80in/lb. with 3/8″ replacement socket 2.5 lbs. (1.2kg)
Attaching the TwinTite
- Place gear box shaft in drill chuck and tighten
- Place wire form around drill handle and wire ends into clamp holes on bottom of gear box and tighten screws.
- Assemble 2-piece clamp around wire form near drill handle base and tighten the screws.
