Want to know what happens when you give a 10 year-old a power tool and ask him to write a short story about it? I enlisted the help and imagination of my son, Caleb, to see what he’d come up with. The following is, hopefully, the start of a new column—and a growing enjoyment of, and appreciation for, tools. Each month, I’ll give Caleb a new tool and engage his mind to see what he comes up with. The only rule is that he has to incorporate the tool prominently in the story. Then we get to share the story with the rest of the tool world. Please note that these stories are generally unedited and left as-is for the consumption and enjoyment of the reader. (Caleb even types them up himself on the computer and submits an original piece of artwork for each one.) This week’s story involves a Milwaukee M18 Cordless Grinder. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did.
Jake and the Milwaukee M18 Cordless Grinder
Super-spy Jake was out to stop the evil robots. When he got to the robots’ hidden base, he saw blast doors.
“Blast doors!” said Jake.
He tried everything. Grenades only made a dent, but Jake knew what to do. He called his helicopter.
“Listen up!” said Jake.”I need a Milwaukee M18 cordless grinder!”
The helicopter responded immediately. A package dropped from the sky. Jake opened the package and got to work. When he cut through the doors, he looked inside. What he saw was breathtaking. The robots were planning to melt the polar ice caps!
“With my army of lava monsters, I will be invincible!” said the boss bot.
Jake gasped. “Hey!” He said.”Isn’t that our malfunctioning TJ-007-0605 Unit?”
He called the boss dog to make sure.
The boss dog said,”TJ is the boss alright, we’ll let him think he’s won.”
Jake then burst into the room carrying the M18 grinder. Since the robots were made of metal, and the M18 can cut metal, the robots were scared and surrendered.
Back at base, the boss dog said, “Jake, you saved the world. Thank you.”
All the dogs cheered.
Jake said,”I can’t wait for my next mission!”
