We don’t do a ton of gimmicky things on Pro Tool Reviews, but this product caught out eye in its simplicity. WeSolve shot us a release of their new SureStep and SureStep Pro Ladder Stabilizers. With the recent attention being paid to OSHA fall safety and ladder safety, we’re not surprised to see more products like this hit the market. The only question is – are they robust enough for serious contractor use, or are they destined for the “As Seen on TV” stockpile? Taking a look at the product, we would have thought the latter (no pun intended), but upon closer inspection we saw that the unit is made out of what looks to be steel tubing and has well-braced hooks that actually catch your aluminum or fiberglass ladder on the inside and outside in a way that puts appropriate pressure on the supports and reinforces the stability of the ladder. You won’t need this with a SumoStance Extension ladder, but for your run of the mill extensions, this may hit the spot.
SureStep Pro Ladder Stabilizer Features
The only thing missing with the SureStep Pro Ladder Stabilizer is an ANSI Duty Rating, but this is a supplemental safety product, so we’re not sure that’s even in the picture.
While many ladder incidents occur due to improper use and violation of the “1 foot out for every 4 feet up” rule, SureStep seeks to aid in accidental ladder instability problems by distributing the load further across the base. Since the SureStep has no moving parts, and you can stagger the supports to accommodate uneven surfaces that surround the ladder, it’s a flexible and easy system to use.
We’re guessing the price of the SureStep Pro Ladder Stabilizer will come down over time. Right now it’s a bit expensive, coming in at $79 for the basic SureStep, and $99 for the SureStep Pro which has a bit more steel and additional horizontal supports. We’d probably want to see the prices at about half that in order to make this a more friendly product for both consumers and pros. Still, if you just can’t wait, check out www.saferladdergear.com.
