When I first saw the new Spyderco C174GP Double Bevel Tactical Folding Knife, the double bevel design and hollow ground near the handle immediately stood out to me. It’s almost nothing like the Spyderco Paramilitary 2 we looked at, but I love the uniqueness of this folder—and that’s what’s great about Spyderco’s diversity. This unique design was conceived by the man known as the father of handmade tactical folding knives, Bob Terzuola. Near the tip, the blade is full-flat-ground and leads the way to its full-thickness spine. This creates a blade that has excellent geometry and low friction cutting characteristics while maintaining high strength.
Skeletonized stainless steel liners form the foundation for both the handle and the improved Walker LinerLock mechanism. After thorough experimentation, Terzuola recognized that the knife could lock more securely and hold stronger by taking the flat blade ramp and grinding a concave shape instead. The handle has coated with G-10 scales to ensure a solid grip and a four position hour glass clip allows the knife to be carried tip up or down on either side.
