The SKIL 7 inch wet tile saw (model 3550-01) features the new HydroLock System to help contain the normal mess created by water and dust with traditional tile saws. The idea came to light from the simple fact that it would be more convenient to be able to cut tile in the room that it’s actually going to be used in rather than outside. SKIL accomplishes this with an innovative upper and lower guard design near the blade. This handy little tool is quite a bit different from the Skil MAG77LT circular saw we reviewed from the brand earlier this year, but Skil is nothing if not diverse—another possible reason they are redefining their brand identity.
Other features of the SKIL 7 inch wet tile saw include a durable and rust-resistant aluminum table top, adjustable rip fence with miter gauge, and built in cord wrap. An adjustable side extension provides support for tile up to 18″ x 18″. While I wouldn’t risk cutting tile on the dining room table (unless of course, you like sleeping on the couch), this tile saw should contain the mess enough to take care of your intermediate to advanced home tile cutting needs just about anywhere in the home without the risk of an angry spouse. SKIL tells us to expect to see it hit shelves at Lowe’s by the end of March for around $149.
