Design Classics Ceiling-Mounted Light Fixtures Recall

There’s nothing quite like attempting a routine light bulb replacement only to get a jolt of 120V through your arm… That seems to be the potential for a line of Design Classics Ceiling-Mounted Light Fixtures by Dolan Northwest LLC. There were two reported incidents where a home’s AFCI (Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter) tripped, leading the homeowner to notice that the fixture’s socket wire insulation can degrade over time. Obviously this could lead to charged wires becoming exposed, and allowing electricity to pass to the metal canopy of the fixture. This poses a fire and electric shock hazard to consumers.

Yeah, we tend to want to avoid that sort of thing.

Dolan Northwest can be contacted during business hours and will either replace or repair the fixture for you through your place of purchase as well as give you a $50 voucher. If getting back to the place of purchase is not possible you can contact the firm to schedule a free home repair. There were only around 8000 lights in the recall and these are round ceiling-mounted light fixtures, satin nickel or bronze in color with a domed alabaster glass shade. The light fixture is 14 inches in diameter and 5.5 inches high and has two sockets marked “BO AN” that take 75 watt bulbs. The light fixtures were sold as Design Classics Model 562-09 and 562-30. The brand name and model number are on the inside of the fixture pan. The lights were sold at Builders Lighting, Globe Lighting, Seattle Lighting and online at DestinationLighting.com from September 2008 through September 2009 for about $32.
