This ventures into the world of higher-end tools, but the new Leitz Z3 Diamaster PRO and Diamaster PLUS router cutters are pretty impressive products that we finally got a look at during IWF this week. The cutters are designed to combine the speed and performance of solid carbide routers with the longevity of diamond tooling. They also utilize a pretty innovative tool geometry, and Leitz has positioned these small-diameter triple-edge tools (12mm to 20mm) for high-speed nesting and routing applications. Leitz’s Z3 Diamaster PRO and Diamaster PLUS routers feature triple knife coverage over the entire cutting length of the tool, designed to deliver excellent cut quality at high feed speeds (to 35 meters/min, 1380 inches/min).
Diamaster PRO and PLUS router cutters also feature Leitz’s DFC (Dust Flow Control) technology to enhance tool life and reduce machine downtime caused by tool changes and machine clean-up. Leitz claims that the new routers offer up to 20x the service life compared to solid carbide tools, plus the Diamaster PRO version can be sharpened up to 2-3 times while the Diamaster PLUS can be sharpened 8-20 times.
