To many contractors and tradesman, Goldblatt Tools has long been a name synonymous with quality and real job site durability. But there is a reason they know what they are doing since they have been around for over 125 years and they have stayed focusing on industry specific applications and solutions. With humble roots that can be traced back to when the H. Goldblatt Tool Company started selling tools in Kansas City, Missouri in 1885, their primary business was with plasterers, masons and cement workers. Much like it is now. It kind of reminds me of a drywall installer I once knew. When I asked him, “how do you hang 12′ sheets of 5/8″ drywall over head by yourself?” And what he said has stuck with me since, “find that one thing that you want to do, learn to do it well and you will always have a job”. Goldblatt has shown much the same attitude when it comes to their tools and the contractors that use them. Identify your market, know what they need and make the best tools for them.
Goldblatt Tools is here to stay
With the down turn in the building markets, tool companies have had to rethink what they do and how they do it. In the case of Goldblatt, which are not only sold here in the United States but in more than 100 countries around the world, they too have had to reevaluate their product lines and and come up with ways that will sustain them long-term. After a conversation with Derek Seitz, Goldblatt Tools president, he explained that when things get tough, many companies start to cut product lines and production. With Goldblatt, he excitedly told me that in addition to their core product lines that serve the drywall, masonry & concrete industries; they are expanding to include new lines that will serve painters and tile professionals. He explained that these two product segments were, in effect, extensions of the core products that Goldblatt already focuses on. The new painting and tile product will be available worldwide. The new paint accessory line will include tools like putty knives, wire brushes, scrapers, caulk application tools, razors, brushes and roller cleaners. The new tile tools will include notch trowels, nippers, cutters, grout floats, precision mini-saws and grout removal tools. As with the current Goldblatt tools, these new tools will be designed to give both professionals and do-it-yourself customers professional results on their projects. Currently the complete line of Goldblatt hand tools offer more than 1,000 products.
In my discussion with Derek, he gave me some insights into the reorganization of the Goldblatt brand. In September 2010, the assets of the Goldblatt Tool Company were purchased by Hong Kong Great Star International Co. Ltd. Under the new ownership, Goldblatt was reformed as Goldblatt Industries LLC and now operates as a subsidiarity of HKGS. There has been some extra capital to develop and further the Goldblatt brand which is evident by the branching out into the two new market areas since the acquisition. Derick was quick to point out the prior to the sale, Goldblatt was already a strong world wide brand and that the new deal only furthers this because the brand will have yet new avenues to present its products to customers. He was also quick to point out that as has been the tradition of Goldblatt tools in the past that they will still focus on what they like to think, is the best tools for the money. He assured me that we would not see a drop in quality or design because of the deal. In fact, they mentioned that in many cases, they will actually be able to incorporate better value into their tools because of their new global manufacturing abilities. He even went so far to say that, the manufacturing of certain products will remain in the United States. To show that Goldblatt is serious about the quality and performance of their tools, each and every new Goldblatt tools is backed by their new Professional Performance Guarantee. This offers a full money-back refund if the tool fails to deliver professional results for the customer; no questions asked. Make sure to check out their new interactive website to not only see the new tools but also videos and other demonstrations.
