The recall will affect almost 464,000 Cadillac CT6 sedans, Chevrolet Silverado 1500 trucks, and GMC Sierra 1500 trucks from the 2019 lineup. According to General Motors, a software error can disable the electronic stability control and antilock brake systems, increasing the risk of a crash.
A second recall, which affects over 350,000 trucks from the 2019 and 2020 Silverado and Sierra 1500 models, will bring GM owners back to the dealerships as well. According to GM, a cable connecting the battery and alternator may have too much glue on it, which could interrupt the electrical signal. This could possibly cause the trucks to stall or catch fire.
Beginning January 27, dealerships will reprogram the brake computers and clean and inspect the cables and connectors on these models. It should be noted that the documents released to the government about the recall don’t mention any reported crashes, fires, or injuries.
