What do you do when you are contacted by suspicious people trying to sell you tools out of the back of a car? Simple, you set them up, get the tools back, and put them in jail. At least that’s what two friends did, working together to recover stolen power tools and put two robbers behind bars.
A police officer was summoned to a residence where he met up with the two friends who had convinced the thieves to “sell” them some power tools they had stolen from a trailer the night before. The catch? The tools belonged to one of the friends.
Upon arriving, police officer Keith Strong learned that the victim had been contacted by a friend, who informed him a man and woman were selling power tools out of the trunk of their car. The friend approached the suspicious pair, telling him that he knew of someone nearby who might be interested in buying their entire stock. Somehow he convinced the naive burglers to follow him to the friend’s house.
Upon arriving at the Anawan Street home, the pair were met by Strong and the victim, who identified some of the tools as his. Officer Strong charged Andrew Ferreira, 25, and Kara Ferreira, 35, both of 44 Massasoit St., with receiving stolen property over $250.
The items recovered included four Dewalt 90-degree power drills with cases, two Rigid reciprocating saws with cases, two Paslode finish nail guns with cases and a Mighty Mite power pack, among other tools.
The lesson here: don’t steal tools. Or at the very least, don’t be a numbnuts and sell them in the same general neighborhood in which they were stolen. Thank goodness thieves are typically not the sharpest tools in the shed.
