In our continuing “what were they thinking” series of odd tool-related news stories, an interesting one was submitted to us out of Fort Myers, Florida. It seems a Lee County deputy had to use his Taser on a man who came at him. The man apparently wielded a cordless circular saw. Additionally, he ignored orders to put it down. I wonder if he read our article on the best cordless circular saw and wanted to try it out?
Man Attacks Officer With Circular Saw
In our “Man attacks officer with a circular saw” news, David Bonvissuto, 45, who lists address in the 17000 block of Ingram Road and 13000 block of Heald Road, Fort Myers, was charged Saturday night with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer. He was also charged with resisting a law enforcement officer with violence.
According to Lee County Sheriff’s Office reports:
A man called deputies and said that a man was destroying a portable Tiki bar with a bat in the man’s driveway in the 11000 block of Navarro Way in Fort Myers.
The deputy arrived and saw Bonvissuto dismantling the Tiki bar with a portable circulating saw. Bonvissuto was told numerous times to put the saw down. But when Bonvissuto walked toward the deputy with the saw still running, the deputy deployed his Taser. Bonvissuto dropped the saw and fell, but tried to get back up so the deputy gave him a second burst from the Taser.
Yes, Officers Arrested Him
Needless to say, police then arrested the attacker, Bonvissuto. He remained Monday in Lee County Jail with bond denied because of a May battery arrest.
The takeaway lesson here: Don’t approach a police officer with a cordless or corded tool running (or not) in your hands, especially if said officer tels you to put it down.
Maybe he needed to recharge the batteries and thought the taser would help?
