Milwaukee’s Updated M18 Crimpers Provide Electricians And Linemen With Pressure Variability
Linemen and electricians require a ton of specialized equipment on the jobsite, and crimpers are one of the most common. The Milwaukee M18 Force Logic Crimpers come in both 6T and 12T pressure ratings and offer an update to the brand’s crimper lineup. We’re taking a look at what these models add to the design to give linemen better control over their work.
Milwaukee M18 6-Ton Force Logic Crimper 2979-22
- Model: Milwaukee 2979-22
- Max output force: 6 Tons

- Green LED verifies full pressure is reached
- One-Key compatible
- Length: 17.25 inches
- Weight: 6.3 pounds (bare)
This crimper features a brushless motor that provides a maximum output force of 6 tons. Its compact, inline design is optimized for both underground and overhead applications. Its latched head also rotates 340° for control in any orientation and a dual electronic release button enables both left- and right-handed use.
Predictive Force Monitoring delivers uniform crimps by constantly measuring the output force to ensure full pressure is reached and is the same over the life of the tool. It also performs a pre-crimp battery check to make sure there is enough juice to make a complete crimp before you start.
A green LED light indicates when the tool reaches full pressure and Auto-Dump technology automatically retracts the crimper after pressure is reached.
The 2979-22 is a specialty crimping-only tool, as opposed to Milwaukee’s past 6T model that also performed cuts in various materials. This dedicated crimping function satisfies linemen who prefer a uniform crimp appearance.
Milwaukee M18 12-Ton Force Logic Crimper 2878-22
- Model: Milwaukee 2878-22
- Max output force: 12 Tons
- Inline design
- 340° rotating head
- Dual electronic release button for left- and right-handed use
- Predictive Force Monitoring (PFM) ensures uniform crimps
- Uses industry-standard U dies
- Green LED verifies full pressure is reached
- One-Key compatible
- Length: 20.9 inches
- Weight: 13.1 pounds (bare)
Like its 6T-rated little brother, the 12T crimper features an inline design and a 340° rotating head optimized for use in any orientation. This model also features a brushless motor that gives it a maximum force output of 12 tons and it shares the PFM for uniform crimping.
This is Milwaukee’s second 12T crimper and the first one at this rating with an inline design. Crimpers at this capacity create solid electrical connections on larger-capacity wires up to 750MCM copper and aluminum.
Milwaukee tells us this latched linear crimper delivers the fastest connections across all connector sizes to deliver maximum control in both underground and overhead applications.
