On tough jobsites, it’s all too easy to push battery-powered tools to their absolute limit, which can involve potential damage to your tools and batteries. Not to mention the effects water can have on your batteries when moisture enters their internal cell terminals. Metabo HPT has posed a solution to both problems with the announcement of the MultiVolt Water- and Impact-Resistant Batteries. I’m looking at what these batteries have to offer and what advantages they have over traditional cordless power solutions.

Metabo HPT Water and Impact-Resistant Batteries: Performance and Design
- Model: Metabo HPT 380083M
- Capacity: 5.0Ah for 18V tools; 2.5Ah for 36V tools
- Improved water resistance
- 15% more shock absorption
- 4-stage fuel gauge
- Works at temperatures as low as 14°F
Compared to standard MultiVolt batteries, the Metabo HPT 380083M battery ups the ante when it comes to protection. Thanks to some thoughtful design features, it boasts more water resistance and durability to stand up to tough jobsite conditions.
The 380083M battery features a waterproof barrier to protect the internal cell terminals from water damage and defend against moisture-related short-circuiting. If water does happen to enter the battery pack, twin exit ports facilitate drainage before damage can be done to the battery’s internals.
Metabo HPT also made improvements in durability with this new MultiVolt battery. It’s designed with an impact-resistant protective outer layer that provides 15% more shock absorption than previous models to lessen the chances of damage if it gets jostled around or dropped.
Metabo HPT tells us these new impact- and water-resistant batteries feature protection against overheating when pushed to the limit. For cold-climate jobsites, they also work in temperatures as low as 14°F (-10°C).
Finally, like other MultiVolt power solutions, these batteries feature a 4-stage LED fuel gauge, which allows you to monitor battery levels with the push of a button.
