Metabo HPT Expands MultiVolt Lineup with Industry-First Cordless Duplex Nailer
Metabo HPT (the artist formerly known as Hitachi) has a pretty solid reputation for making excellent nailers. That being the case, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that they’ve continued to innovate by releasing an industry-first: the Metabo HPT Cordless Duplex Nailer. It runs on the brand’s 36V MultiVolt battery platform. In fact, the PTIA crew felt it was so forward-thinking that it received a 2020 Pro Tool Innovation Award.

Nails for Days
Anyone who makes concrete forms knows the importance of a duplex nailer. These tools work great for automating nailing tasks where the nail eventually needs to be removed. Aside from concrete forms, they also work well for temporary wood supports such as removable bracing for trusses or walls. Using the Metabo HPT cordless duplex nailer, you can kiss hand-driving duplex nails goodbye. It features an Air Spring Drive System that, coupled with the 36V MultiVolt battery and brushless motor, can drive duplex nails all day long. The system works off the same system as the Metabo HPT cordless framing nailer, so you get quick-firing with no “spool-up” time.
With the kitted 2.5Ah battery, this nailer fires up to 900 16D 3-1/2″ nails on a single charge. Attaching a 4.0Ah battery gets you around 1200 shots. Or, if you know about the MultiVolt System, you can use the adapter to draw from AC power and not worry about run times at all. With this kind of battery run-time, we can’t imagine anyone who might need to do that unless you forgot to prep a battery.
Speed and Supported Nails
It drives 2 nails per second with a pneumatic-like feel. As mentioned earlier, there’s zero ramp-up time. You simply turn on the nailer and get at it.
The Metabo HPT NR3675DD Duplex Nailer accepts 6D, 8D, and 16D plastic strip collated Duplex nails. It can drive 16D duplex nails up to 3″, 8D duplex nails up to 2-1/4″, and 6D nails up to 1-3/4″.
The Metabo HPT Cordless Duplex Nailer comes with a dry-fire lockout system and a tool-less drive depth adjustment. You’d think those would be standard features on all products—but we keep finding nailers without one or the other. The NR3675DD also features selective actuation so you can fire in bump mode or sequential mode.
For safety, the Metabo HPT Cordless Duplex Nailer gives you a side lock switch to prevent accidental firing. Lastly, a pivoting belt hook makes for a convenient solution for hands-free carrying.
Thoughts and Pricing
It’s not difficult to immediately see the appeal of a battery-powered duplex nailer. Aside from the convenience, you also benefit from reducing the overall shock to supports, bracing, and frames caused by hammering duplex nails by hand. Ditching the pneumatic hose is just icing on the proverbial cake. The Metabo HPT Cordless Duplex Nailer kit includes a 2.5Ah battery and charger. It retails for $599. Metabo HPT warranties the tool for life, the battery for 2 years, and the charger for 1 year.
