Metabo on the Cordless Heat Gun
This lightweight, ergonomic cordless heat gun outperforms the competition and performs just like a corded version but without the limitations and trip hazards of a corded tool. The heat gun can be used for a variety of applications, from heat shrinking, bending, softening, thawing, plastic welding, to soldering of copper pipes or stripping paint and removing decals.

Hot, Hot, Hot
Metabo’s big claim to fame with the 18V Cordless Heat Gun revolves around its cord-like performance. What does that look like?
The Metabo HG 18 LTX 500 features dual temperature ranges from 570°F to 930°F that you can select via the thumbwheel on the back of the tool. An LED readout displays the temperature ranges.
The Metabo 18V Heat Gun reaches temperature in under 5 seconds, and it moves air at 6-7 CFM. This combination of temperature and airflow makes the HG 18 LTX 500 an ideal solution for short-term work like heat shrinking, bending, softening, plastic welding, thawing, copper pipe soldering, and decal removal.
Runtime and Safety Features
Metabo tells us that with an 8.0Ah battery, the 18V Cordless Heat Gun gets over 20+ minutes of continuous runtime. That’s impressive. We still, however, don’t recommend cordless heat guns for most paint stripping—unless you have a very limited amount of work to do. Typically, you need a lot of extended run-time for removing paint—much more than 20 minutes in most cases.
Metabo has included some safety features here as well. A dual-action switch and lockout button under the trigger keep you from inadvertently firing off the 18V Heat Gun. An LED work light lets you see what you’re doing.
Pricing
You can pick up the Metabo HG 18 LTX 500 Cordless Heat Gun from various online retailers. Sold as a bare tool, it retails for around $132. It comes with a wraparound nozzle and a reducing nozzle for spot heating. Metabo also warranties the heat gun for 3 years.
