Makita’s new LXDT04 Cordless Impact Driver uses the company’s variable speed 4-pole motor to deliver 1,420 in. lbs. of maximum torque. It does it with 0-3,200 impacts per minute and up to 2,300 RPMs. We love impact drivers, and Makita’s new model seems suited for a variety of tough-as-nails (or, as is the case, tough as lag bolts) fastening tasks. Since the LXDT04 only weighs 3.3 lbs, it’s also got an excellent power-to-weight ratio and measures just 5-7/16″ long – smaller and lighter than the BTD141 18V Impact Driver that it seems to replace.
Makita LXDT04 18V LXT Cordless Impact Driver Features
The Makita LXDT04 18V LXT Cordless Impact Driver uses a 1/4″ hex “one-touch” chuck for quick bit changes and it works in such a way that the sleeve doesn’t need to be pulled in order to insert a bit. The tool also includes the now-requisite built-in LED light that remains on for 10 seconds once you let go of the trigger. Bump it and you can easily locate your fastener without having to hold down the trigger or prematurely spin up the shaft. A tool belt clip is also included so that you can attach to tool to your belt on either the left or right side. The LXDT04 has a newly redesigned rubberized grip that is more comfortable and intended to make all-day use possible without hand fatigue.
With its variable speed motor and 1,420 in. lbs. of maximum torque, the Makita LXDT04 18V LXT Cordless Impact Driver looks to be ideal for HVAC, mechanical, electrical, fencing/decking pro contractors, steel stud framers, woodworkers, finish carpenters, and more. This is a tool that will compete well with Makita’s other offerings, including their latest and ever-slightly more powerful powerful Makita LXDT01 Cordless 3-Speed Brushless Impact Driver. To put it in perspective, the LDXT04 shaves 1/16″ off the size and only sacrifices around 40 in.lbs. of max torque and 300 RPMs of extra speed.
The Makita LXDT04 18V LXT Cordless Impact Driver is sold as both a kit and the LXDT04Z “tool-only” version for those who already have batteries and a charger. The kit includes two 18V LXT Lithium-ion batteries, a 30-minute Rapid Optimum Charger, tool belt clip, and a soft tool case. Makita includes its 3-year tool, 1-year battery/charger warranty.
