Makita Combines A Compact Design With Low Vibration In The XRJ08 Reciprocating Saw

Makita’s been due for a compact reciprocating saw upgrade for a while, having several models in the sub-compact and full-size sectors. The XRJ08 Recipro adds some new features that give it a more classic compact reciprocating saw design. Take a look at what the Makita 18V LXT One-Hand Recipro Saw brings to the table and how it compares to the brand’s previous models.

Makita 18V LXT One-Hand Recipro Saw: The Big Deal

We wanted to know what the Makita 18V LXT One-Hand Recipro Saw brings to the table and how it compares to the brand's previous models.

Starting with the performance details, this saw’s brushless motor delivers a maximum of 3100 strokes per minute and has a 7/8-inch stroke length. Considering the previous XRJ01 only had a 1/2-inch stroke, we expect a significant increase in cutting speed.

The specs are pretty much on par with other compact one-handed reciprocating saws we’ve reviewed, however, Makita tells us it achieves up to 50% faster speeds compared to competing brands.

Makita is no stranger to going against the grain as far as design, (as is the case with the 18V LXT Sub-Compact Recipro Saw) but with this one, they go for a more classic look. One design feature that’s not exactly standard, but is certainly welcome is the hand guard below the trigger. Not only does the addition of a hand guard protect your hand while working, but Makita says it provides additional rigidity for improved one-handed cutting efficiency.

This saw also sees improved vibration control, with the brand claiming up to 40% lower vibration thanks to its counterweight mechanism. This will most certainly come in handy to reduce fatigue when you’re working in tight or overhead spaces using only one hand.
