Legrand’s new Pass & Seymour Enhanced LED Nightlight Outlet (TM8HWL-EWCC) lets you replace any outlet in a dark hallway, bathroom, or child’s bedroom with a combination LED nightlight and single outlet. The outlet is decorator style, and the LED nightlight is ambient sensitive, only coming on when the room is dark. The wall plate is sold separately and the outlet is available in white, ivory or light almond. For less than $17 this is a great product to feed off a GFCI in a bathroom or to place in a dark hallway or even a bedroom. The automatic LED, while bright, is a reasonable level that gives light without coming across as blinding.
LED Nightlight Outlet Features
The LED nightlight outlet itself is simply to wire and has easy-to-use terminals. The body is mostly plastic and the entire outlet is definitely “spec home” grade, but we still see no reason why it wouldn’t last. It’s not exactly going to get a lot of abuse if it’s used in the manner designed.
We picked one up and put it in a bathroom, piggybacking it off of a GFCI circuit so it was “street legal”. Installation was a breeze and we soon had it ready to go. We tested it by dimming the lights a bit and overall we’d say the LED is sensitive enough to come on when the lighting isn’t terribly bright, but it also varies in intensity. That means that it’s not truly at maximum brightness until the room gets relatively dark. You can test out how this works by placing your finger over the LED nightlight outlet’s sensor, which is mounted at the middle right of the outlet, just below the LED light.
This LED Nightlight Outlet from Legrand is available just about anywhere you can buy Legrand’s Pass & Seymour products (Lowe’s has them for around $13). Pricing will vary depending upon which vendor or dealer you pick it up from.
