Knipex Pipe and Connector Pliers Feature Plastic Inserts For Gentler Loosening
Knipex Tools has introduced some pretty fancy-looking inserts for the Pipe and Connector Pliers series. However, it’s not all about the eye-catching looks. These inserts feature a soft blue outer layer and a firm red inner layer that apply a firm yet gentle pressure for turning hoses, nozzles, and various connectors. They’re a sort of “kinder, gentler” pliers.

By adding the two component materials to the inserts, users get a grip that’s sturdy enough to tackle tough jobs, but gentle enough to protect the workpiece. Once this tool is set, it stays in that position without movement until the user changes it, making it the ideal tool for repetitive work.

What’s the Big Deal?
The Knipex Pipe and Connector Pliers series offers 25 easy adjustments with just the push of a button. Having used these before, we like the easy adjustability and one-handed convenience. They also feature a box-joint design which we like. It adds some rigidity and all but eliminates any side-to-side play.
Soft Plastic Insert Design
Knipex designed the dual-component inserts for gently loosening connections like those found on hoses and nozzles. The soft jaw prevents corrosion by not allowing any metal to transfer to the workpiece. This makes it an ideal tool for cannon plugs in aviation and electrical connections in automotive and trailer applications.
The rounded jaws grab round pipes and connectors up to 3-5/32″ in diameter. These might be the best pliers for tightening and loosening screw connections, plastic pipe fittings, and round nuts.
The Knipex Pipe and Connector Pliers series also includes a model without the plastic inserts if you need a plier with an even tougher grip (81 01 250).
Knipex forges the pliers from German chrome vanadium steel. They get oil-hardened, and then a non-slip plastic coating gets applied. The 81 01 250 model features serrated gripping jaws for pipes and fittings from 1″ to 3-5/32″. The 81 11 250 has replaceable plastic jaws for soft surfaces, tackling diameters from 3/8″ to 3″.
