We’re teaming up with Ingersoll Rand in this sponsored post to tell you more about the Ingersoll Rand 20V Compact Impact Wrench line. We have the 3/8-inch W3131 in hand and plenty of nuts to bust as we learn more about the capabilities and design the development team built into them!
Ingersoll Rand 20V Compact 3/8-Inch Impact Wrench Performance
Compact is the name of the game for this line, but before we dive into that, let’s start with performance. You can get this impact wrench with either a 3/8-inch or 1/2-inch square drive and both offer the same performance.
You have 3 speeds to choose from that you cycle with the electronic selector on the foot of the tool. In the highest mode, the brushless motor produces 2800 RPM with 4200 IPM and 400 ft-lbs of breakaway torque. The 1/2-inch model is a bit stronger with 450 ft-lbs of breakaway torque. Not only does the brushless motor improve the performance for its size, but it also has a significantly longer runtime and service life than brushed motors.
No matter which mode you use, you have the benefit of a variable speed trigger to feather the performance exactly how you need it.
The kit includes a 2.5Ah and 5.6Ah battery and you might notice the green section of the sticker on the larger pack. It’s the BL2023 and part of Ingersoll Rand’s sustainable battery initiative. The design offers twice the life of the IR’s standard batteries, plus 12% higher capacity. You end up with more runtime, less waste, and fewer interruptions for battery changes in your day.
Ingersoll Rand 20V Compact 3/8-Inch Impact Wrench Design
A quick look at this impact wrench reveals that the head is very compact for its performance class. At 5.2 inches long (5.3 inches for the 1/2-inch drive), it can fit into some seriously tight spaces. The head angles up slightly, helping you keep the battery out of the way when you’re reaching into those spots.
The weight is also refreshingly low—just 2.3 pounds for the bare tool. The 2.5Ah battery brings the total weight up to 3.2 pounds and the 5.6Ah pack makes it 3.8 pounds. Between that and the comfort of IR’s ergonomic, overmolded grip, it’s a really nice tool to have in your hands.
On the front, there’s a diffused LED halo surrounding the drive. When you’re trying to position your socket onto a fastener, it’s far more helpful than foot-mounted lights and eliminates the shadows that they produce.
Around the front, sides, and back, there are impact-resistant bumpers that help improve the tool’s overall durability.
